How important are UDT licenses?

We receive inquiries about courses for the operation of mobile elevating work platforms, lift trucks, or overhead cranes almost every day. The most frequently asked questions about the price and date of training.

In order to obtain a license to operate these machines, you must pass an exam before a two-person commission composed of inspectors from the Office of Technical Inspection (UDT). The exam consists of a theoretical part during which the trainee must correctly answer at least 11 questions. The set consists of 15 questions. The trainee receives two documents: a set of questions and an exam card on which they select one answer. The written exam is in the form of multiple-choice tests. The student has a maximum of 30 minutes to complete the test. After submitting the test, the trainee receives information within a few minutes about whether they passed or failed. If the trainee has passed, there is a practical exam during which the ability to safely operate a mobile elevating work platform (a scissor lift) must be demonstrated. During the exam, the trainee must be equipped with personal protective equipment, e.g., a helmet with a chin strap, a reflective vest, and a safety harness. Please check the Regulation of the Minister of Entrepreneurship and Technology of May 21, 2019 on the method and mode of checking the licenses required for the operation and maintenance of technical devices and the method and mode of extending the period of validity of qualification certificates. If an employee operates a mobile platform without a license, the employer receives a fine of PLN 1,000 for the lack of authorization while the employee is performing work on a mobile platform.
